I became a nurse in 2017, eager to help my patients feel better and educate them on their various health conditions and recommended lifestyle modifications. However, in the hospital I often found myself too busy to give them the education that they needed. I found myself in a system focused on treating symptoms with medications that caused even more symptoms requiring additional medicines. Sound familiar?

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe western medicine has a role to play. But it does a much better job managing emergency health situations than preventing those emergencies and as my mom says, “Prevention is the best medicine!” I knew there had to be a different option, a different perspective. And then I discovered functional medicine.
